Mix Tape 2009

December 14th, 2009 - No Responses

So i did a lot of travelling this year.

All over the USA for three months, Perth for a few weeks, Toured in Europe for a month, went all up and down the east coast of Australia for 2 weeks, Back to the USA for 6 weeks. Basically had an amazing time all over. Whenever I travel i take my Ipod, its awesome how music can remind you so much of a certain place of time or event.

With this in mind i decided to create a mixtape and put it up for download. 30 songs that have been playing in my headphones while i walk the streets of New York, Drove the mountains of Switzerland, Ate from the bakery in Byron Bay, rode my bike through San Francisco and a million other things.

I just put this together to give people a chance to grab a random mix bag of tunes, hopefully find something they like, something they lost, or something they never want to hear again. This is like a taste tester i guess, so if you like them, you should support the bands on here that you can support (those that are still around and playing). They have all inspired me in one way or another.

You can download it at the below link, feel free to pass it on to whoever you wish. Seasons Greetings

I recently did the tour poster and branding for the “Schools Out For Summer” tour. This is the poster but it was also done as a street press ad in landscape format and other variations for Blunt mag and a6 flyers.

Also a new tee design for DN as well. The Ghost Inside from LA are playing this tour as well, will be worth checking out.

Recent Work – Vans

November 30th, 2009 - One Response

So a little while back i was lucky enough to be able to design the invite and promo shirt for the opening of the VANS store in Melbourne. The first Vans store for Australia!

The invite was a screen printed mini vans shoe box, inside that was a screen printed invite on vintage paper stock, also included was a Vans friendship band.

I also got to design a tee shirt that was a give away to all the invited guests on the night. Plus i made up a version of the Off The Wall logo with Melbourne in place of “Off The Wall”

I kept it close and did all of the printing as well which meant i had control over all the quality of the final product, was a really fun job for me. The opening was a great success, and i was stoked to work on stuff for a brand that I have loved since i was a kid, and still do.

Huge thanks to Diamond Dozen  (http://www.diamondozen.com) for getting me involved in the launch!

Some recaps of the nights events can be found below.

At the moment there is a Pre-Order for a second pressing of the Miles Away Europe Tour Zine. The original pressing was only 70 copies which were sold on the Sike Your Mind tour in October. I have had many emails and people asking for copies and if there were any left etc.

Now this Pre order is up until December 10 thats three weeks to place your order. Ill be sending Australia wide, so people who could not make it to the tour can now get a copy direct to their door. International orders will be accepted but may cost a little extra in postage.

There is also a package available that comes with a Pyramid Scheme Press tee shirt. Illustrated by myself.

Check it out, and feel free to drop me a line with any thoughts or problems, Bookmark the page as there will be more items coming to the store soon.

Wedding Gift

November 19th, 2009 - No Responses

On friday the 13th of November I attended the wedding of Matt Miller and Danielle Distefano in Central Park New York City.

I decided to try my hand at some woodwork/sculpture to build a gift for them.

Matt has a huge Skateboard collection at their home in Atlanta, and is an amazing photographer, Danielle is a well respected Tattooer all over and recently opened The “Only You” Tattoo shop in Atlanta. I tried to combine all of these things into the gift. Here is the result. Made entirely out of recycled skateboards.

A Tattoo machine, the logo of her tattoo shop, and the Logo of Matt’s photography company. The wedding was amazing and they were stoked on the gift. Making this has got me inspired to play around more with this type of thing. Who knows what may come of it?

Pyramid Scheme Press.

Well, its been a long time since i have updated…. hopefully give this whole thing a overhaul soon

So, alongside other projects and travel and work and stuff, ive decided to start a label.
Not a record label, there is enough of those who all work really hard, but my label is infact a “Press”

Pyramid Scheme Press

Something i have started up to release books, zines, and eventually some artwork prints and random items through. Not talking huge numbers here, its just something that i have been wanting to do for quite a while. Having many friends who have creative talent but not as much of an outlet for it is what inspired me to take it on.

The first release on this label is available from this week on the Sike Your Mind tour around Australia.

“Miles Away – 30 days in Europe Tour Zine” Documenting the tour Miles Away did June through July this year in the EU summer.

Only 70 copies are made. 35 with red covers 35 with tan. It is 100 pages a5 format. made totally using cut and paste.

If there is any left after tour i will be offering them up for postal order, but for now its the Miles Away merch desk at the sike your mind shows in each state.

They are selling for $10 each.

I put together this short video playing around with my new computers video editing software, excuse my limited skill with editing, its made up of some footage from around europe.

Cheers

Skywhale and Tooth. Edition number 1

February 15th, 2009 - No Responses

Today is Monday, I leave on wednesday morning for three months, so below is an explantion of something me and my good friend Jake have come up with.

SKYWHALE & TOOTH. Edition Number One.

Skywhale & Tooth, aka Jake and Callum, we are two friends, based in Melbourne, who pretty much just hang out a lot. We are both artists and designers trying to make our way doing that which we love and enjoy.

We both draw pictures a lot, sometimes on paper, on walls, on canvas, in books, sometimes on skin ( ones that dont wash off ) and wherever else we can.

Callum is leaving Australia for three months to zig zag across the United States, So we decided that we should actually do something that we have always talked about, being that Callum has a background in screenprinting, we always wanted to do a shirt together, using our design, printed by us, with complete control over how it looks, the size, quality and how the shirt is presented.

We are both big fans of the little details in presentation that make things great. This is NOT a clothing brand, its is NOT band merch, it is art for arts sake, something that we worked on together and came to this completed product.

Each Tee features a two color front print, a computer manipulated photo collage, with hand drawn illustrations by both of us. It also features a large interior collar print featuring the size and a little tale of how it came about.

The tees are packaged in a thick brown paper envelope, screenprinted on the front. Inside is the tee and a double sided a4 size artwork, one side SKYWHALE, the other side TOOTH.

All the screenprinting was done by us at a secret location and were packaged 11 floors up in the city of Melbourne.

If you choose to by a shirt, we would like to say thank you for your support. We hope you enjoy the effort that we put into the overall product.

This is the first, we hope its not the last. But time will tell.

Thanks.

Jake and Callum

SKYWHALE & TOOTH

The Tee’s are $40AU with free postage. There are 30 shirts only and no more. If you are interested please email jake at Jacobrolfe@gmail.com.

This saturday afternoon I am lucky enough to have been invited as one of the 4 guest artists to be painting outside on the Rooftop Bar. Level 6, 252 Swanston Street.

Thats the Cookie building, or the rooftop cinema, for those who are unsure of where i mean.

I will be there painting from 1pm – 5pm, I will be working on 4 wooden panel canvas’, all of which will also be for sale if they are all finished on the day.

If you print this flyer it is redeemable for a free beer thanks to little creatures, and will also get you priority entry. There are three other artists working live on the day also, as well as artist markets featuring top Melbourne designers and artists.

The whole day is taking place to celebrate the launch of the brilliant Fleur Harris’ exhibition of amazing paper cuts ” Something Wicked This Way Comes” so make sure you come along just to see that if nothing else.

All this thanks to Dual Collaboration, RoofTop Bar, Little Creatures and Frankie Magazine.

Hope to see some familiar faces there. Its free and there will be lots to check out.

Please feel free to repost this if you are interested and think your freinds might be.
